App Demo Best Practices

Written by Vim | Sep 12, 2025 2:02:26 PM

Your demo is an end user’s (whether administrative or an actual member of the care team) first interaction with your app - it matters! The most successful demos capture users’ attention, have a clear problem and solution statement, and speak to the value of the integrated experience we are partnering to provide.

We suggest an “explainer video” style demo rather than a lengthy step-by-step tutorial, though you can certainly link to additional educational content and videos in your store listing. 2-3 minutes, visual representation of the solution and how it works, and an engaging presentation works well.

There are several tools available to prepare this type of demo DIY-style, or via a third-party vendor / creative. Developers building on Vim have taken both pathways.

Additional guidelines:

  • Demonstrate app in mock environment, not in a real EHR environment.
  • Disable the Demo Canvas App or Dev/Test apps you have to only show the production application in your video (see here for how to do it).
  • Consider using professional voice-over (human or AI) and subtitles for a more professional feel and to support non-audio experiences (often relevant in clinical settings).
