# Individual User Onboarding 101

This guide introduces the **Individual User Onboarding** method for Canvas App partners. This is a streamlined, self-service flow for onboarding solo users directly into your application via Vim—ideal for products aimed at individual clinicians or solo practitioners.

## **What Is Individual User Onboarding?**

Individual onboarding allows individual users to sign up and integrate your Canvas App through Vim **without any practice-level setup**. Instead of being grouped under a practice, users are treated as standalone participants.

- **Zero Setup Required** – No IT lift or involvement from practices.
- **User-Level Visibility** – Users appear as individual entities in your system.
- **No Practice Management Needed** – You don’t need to manage practice rosters or roles.
- **Fast Time-to-Use** – The flow is lightweight and quick, ideal for solo users.

## How It Works

### Step 1: Request Activation

Contact your **Vim Success Manager** to enable the individual onboarding flow for your app. Activation typically takes about **one business day**.

### Step 2: Distribute the Onboarding Link

Once activated, you'll receive a unique link you can share via:

- Website
- Newsletters
- Direct outreach (email, SMS, ads)

**Link Format:**

https://signup.getvim.com/?applicationId=<your-app-id>&campaignId=<your-campaign-id>

- applicationId: Your Canvas App ID (available via Vim Console)
- campaignId: Optional ID to track performance by campaign source

## Onboarding Flow: User Journey

### 1. Signup

- **Landing Page**: Explains the value of integrating with Vim
- **EHR Selection**: User selects their EHR. If unsupported, they’re offered email notification.
- **Account Email**: User enters their work email
- **Email Confirmation**: User verifies their identity
- **Profile Info**: Short form to collect basic account details

### 2. Installation

- **Instructions Page**: Tailored instructions based on EHR type: 
    - **Chrome Extension** (e.g. Athena, Practice Fusion)
    - **MSI Installer** (e.g. eClinicalWorks) 
          - MSI will be offered only when installation is done on a Windows machine. In a mac machine, Chrome extension would be offered. 
- **Installer Steps**: 
    - Extension: Redirect to Chrome Web Store
    - MSI: Download and install Windows package

### 3. Login to EHR

- Once logged in, Vim recognizes the new user and **activates their account**.
- This is a **solo account**, not tied to a practice.
- These users will **not** have access to the Vim Console.

### **What About Existing Users?**

If a user is already part of the Vim network, they should click on the individual onboarding link — whether they have an individual account or belong to a practice account.  
**Important:** Make sure to open the link in Google Chrome, or whichever browser has the Vim extension installed.  
Once the link is open, click **"Sign up to Vim"**. This will redirect to a page titled **"Already a Vim user?"**  
From there:

- Open the EHR in another tab in the same browser and log in
- The Vim marketplace app will pop up automatically
- Confirm the app installation to complete the process

> **Note:** Users who already have Vim installed will skip the signup steps and go directly to the EHR login.
